ABOUT

Mercedes Murat is an internationally recognized artist, born in Sweden in 1981. Her unique artwork and innovative techniques have established her as a prominent voice in contemporary art.

With a passion for creating artistic furniture and sculptures, Mercedes is also one of the few artists in the world to master the rare technique of verre églomisé. This method involves the stained glass paintings growing mirror-like on the back of transparent glass, where she uses precious metals such as 24k gold, white gold and mother-of-pearl to give her works an irresistible sheen.

Her glass paintings, which often focus on female portraits, capture the viewer's attention with their profound beauty and the strong contrasts offered by the precious metals. The unique technique of working on the back of glass gives the motifs a dynamic and fascinating quality that sets them apart from traditional stained glass. The style has a clear connection to the Art Deco of the 1920s, but with a modern twist that gives her work a unique position in the contemporary art scene.

Mercedes' furniture art is equally impressive and original. She combines an eclectic mix of art, fabrics and colors to create unique pieces that realize her vision of dream furniture. Each piece is meticulously crafted using a variety of gilding, painting and upholstery techniques, inspired by the elegant Rococo style.

With a solid background in traditional craft techniques and fine arts from her studies in both Sweden and England, Mercedes has been a professional artist since 2013. During this time, she has built an impressive portfolio, with exhibitions in prestigious venues around the world, including Qatar, Milan, Florence, Atlanta, Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Helsinki, Oslo and Sweden where she works.
